Yarm and Egglescliffe
Yarm's high street is lined with Georgian townhouses, and behind them are long, narrow plots and walled courtyards. Access is often through the house or along a lane. Across the river, Egglescliffe village has older cottages and larger houses with mature gardens. Hardwood or warm-brown composite suits the brick and stone here.
Eaglescliffe and Preston-on-Tees
Big Victorian and Edwardian houses around Eaglescliffe, plus a lot of 1960s to 1990s detached homes, many with gardens that slope gently. Multi-level decks work well, and Preston Park is never far away for inspiration.
Kirklevington
A village with larger detached houses and open views. Raised decks with glass balustrades are a popular request where gardens look out over farmland.
Ingleby Barwick
Thousands of modern homes, most with a small builder's patio and a flat lawn. This is where we build most decks over old patios, usually in composite. See our guide to decking over an old patio.
Hartburn, Fairfield and Elton
The west end of Stockton has some of its most handsome houses: Victorian villas in Hartburn, 1930s semis and detached homes in Fairfield, and larger plots towards Elton. Gardens tend to be established, with mature trees and hedges.
Norton
Norton village keeps its green and its old houses, with newer streets around. Gardens are a mix of walled plots and wide lawns.
Wynyard and Thornaby Village
Wynyard's large detached houses have big gardens and often want something substantial: a multi-level deck, glass balustrades and lighting. Thornaby Village, the old part of Thornaby, has some fine older houses with long gardens.
